A speeding driver on the BRT lane along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has tragically killed a 12-year-old girl and injured her 15-year-old sister.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that it occurred on Monday at Ogundare bus stop. According to the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the unidentified driver struck the siblings as they were returning from school.

“At about 3:35 pm, a yet-to-be-identified driver, while speeding on the BRT lane, hit two female pedestrians—sisters aged 12 and 15—at Ogundare bus stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway,” the statement read.

Both victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Orile-Agege General Hospital. Sadly, the younger girl did not survive, while her sister was later transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care.

In response, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a full investigation into the incident and urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and speed limits.

He also extended condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them that the police would ensure a thorough probe and bring the driver to justice.
