A fire broke out in Ladipo Market on Tuesday, ravaging several shops and destroying goods worth millions of naira.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria.

According to him, LASEMA received distress calls through its emergency toll-free lines (767 and 112) at approximately 12:09 a.m. Responding swiftly, the agency activated its emergency response plan, dispatching a team from its Cappa Base.

“Upon arrival at 12:16 a.m., responders found a warehouse surrounded by shops engulfed in flames. Investigations revealed that the fire was triggered by an electrical power surge following the restoration of public electricity in the area,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.

Although no injuries or fatalities were reported, valuable merchandise—including electronics, generators, bicycles, auto spare parts, mobile phones, and home appliances—was lost in the blaze.

LASEMA has since sensitized warehouse occupants on fire safety measures to help prevent future occurrences.
