The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 25-year-old Salamatu Danjuma, a resident of Nadabo village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, over the alleged killing of her husband.
In a statement on Monday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, revealed that initial investigations linked the incident to a prolonged domestic dispute between the couple over the custody of their six-year-old daughter.
“Initially, the wife’s family had shown willingness to take in the child, but the husband later refused, which further fueled tensions,” Wakil stated.
According to the police, the situation escalated into a heated argument, during which Salamatu allegedly grabbed a knife from their bedroom, leading to a fatal confrontation.
Following a distress call, officers from the Bununu Police Divisional Headquarters arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to a Cottage Hospital in Bununu, where medical personnel later confirmed his death.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough probe into the case, with legal proceedings to follow upon completion of the investigation.
