Barau Initiative Partners BOA to Empower 558 Farmers

The Barau Initiative for Agricultural Revolution in the North West, an initiative of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has entered into a groundbreaking partnership with the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) to empower 558 young and mid-level farmers in the North-West region.

This innovative collaboration aims to create a new generation of young, successful, and rich farmers, thereby boosting food security and youth empowerment in the country.

Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive a loan of up to N5 million to cultivate maize or rice with high yields and proven high-profit margins. This initiative is expected to revolutionize agriculture in the North-West region, providing jobs for unemployed youths and transforming them into agricultural entrepreneurs.

The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Barau Initiative and the BOA. Present at the signing ceremony were Senator Jibrin, the BIARN team led by Prof Bashir Fagge, and the BOA delegation led by its Managing Director, Alwan Hassan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Jibrin emphasized the importance of supporting food security and youth empowerment in the country. He noted that the initiative aligns with the administration’s cardinal programs, which include boosting agriculture and providing food for citizens.

The initiative is open to youths, including holders of HND, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and PhD, who are currently unemployed. Senator Jibrin commended the Managing Director of the BOA for his dedication to the scheme and also praised President Bola Tinubu for boosting the capital base of the BOA by N1.5 trillion.

The MD of BOA assured Senator Jibrin that the initiative would be well implemented and coordinated, stating that the BOA is happy to support the initiative to revolutionize agriculture in the North-West region.
