Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, recently paid a visit to the Flying Eagles’ training camp in Ikenne Remo following his return from a tour across Europe. His visit comes as part of efforts to strengthen ties between Nigeria’s senior and junior national teams.
During his trip abroad, Chelle met with key Nigerian players plying their trade in Europe. The former Mali coach took time to assess their readiness and discuss future plans ahead of crucial international fixtures.
At the Flying Eagles’ camp, Chelle observed the team’s training session, offering words of motivation to the young squad preparing for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. The visit highlighted his commitment to the growth of Nigeria’s football pipeline.
Head coach Aliyu Zubairu has assembled a 30-man squad for the tournament, which is scheduled to run from April 26 to May 18. The Nigerian U-20 team, seven-time AFCON champions, will battle Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa in Group B as they seek to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.
While in Europe, Chelle, alongside assistant coach Hedi Taboubi, engaged in discussions with key Super Eagles players, including Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi in England, as well as Moses Simon in France. These engagements are part of the team’s build-up to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Chelle’s visit underscores the importance of synergy between Nigeria’s national teams, ensuring a clear pathway for young talents to transition from the U-20 level to the Super Eagles.
