A 16-year-old boy named Ayibanua Timipre has reportedly taken his own life in the Kpansia neighborhood of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
According to PUNCH Metro, the tragic event happened on Saturday when the teenager’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in his father’s home.
Timipre believed to be from the Igbomotoru community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was found with the rope still attached to the fan.
The reasons for his actions are still unclear, but some reports online suggest it may be connected to alleged punishment from his parents after he was accused of stealing N27,000. However, this has not been officially confirmed.
PUNCH Metro learned that the deceased was an apprentice learning mobile phone repairs in the community and had just celebrated his 16th birthday a few days prior, on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
After the body was found, police officers arrived at the scene to recover it. Musa Mohammed, the spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro over the phone on Sunday, stating that an investigation is underway.
“It has been confirmed that a 16-year-old boy committed suicide in Yenagoa, but the investigation is ongoing,” he said. When questioned about the alleged theft of N27,000, Mohammed replied, “I’m not aware of this. The investigation is still ongoing.”
This tragedy follows another suspected suicide reported by PUNCH Metro on February 13, 2025, involving a 19-year-old secondary school graduate, Sunday Moses, who was found dead hanging from a tree in a remote, rocky area of Afio Village, Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State.
