Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Ekeoghene has signed with Canadian Northern Football League team Ottawa Rapid FC ahead of their inaugural 2025 season, following the recent birth of her first child, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
The 31-year-old revealed the move on her X account on Thursday, writing, “New home, new journey. Let’s go samba.”
Okobi makes her return to club football after last playing for Spanish outfit Badalona during the 2022/23 campaign before taking a maternity break.
Prior to her time in Spain, the skilled midfielder had a successful five-year stint at Swedish side Eskilstuna United. She also previously represented Washington Spirit in the United States and Vittsjo in Sweden, showcasing her talent across multiple leagues.
A former Delta Queens standout, Okobi’s new team, Ottawa Rapid FC, is set to compete in Canada’s premier league starting in 2025, with their home matches to be hosted at the TD Place Stadium in Lansdowne Park, Ottawa, Ontario.
Internationally, Okobi has enjoyed an illustrious career since joining the Nigerian national setup in 2008. Rising through the ranks from the U-17s to the senior team after her impressive showing at the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, she has been pivotal in Nigeria’s success.
Okobi contributed significantly to Nigeria’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations victories in 2010 and 2014. She also featured in the 2012 edition of the tournament and represented Nigeria at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, further cementing her legacy.
