Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Folasade Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu, following her abduction by gunmen in Arepo, Ogun State.
Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Mrs. Odumosu was rescued unharmed during an intelligence-led operation.
The Ogun State Police Command, supported by the Force Headquarters’ technical intelligence platforms, engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle on Wednesday in the swampy creeks of Ikorodu, Lagos. Two of the kidnappers were neutralized, while four others fled, leaving behind weapons and ransom money.
Adejobi revealed that the abduction occurred on January 16, 2025, when four masked gunmen forcibly took Mrs. Odumosu from her Lexus Jeep outside her residence. The police launched an extensive investigation and tracked the kidnappers to their hideout.
“On January 23, 2025, at around 6:45 AM, operatives raided the kidnappers’ location in Ikorodu. During the encounter, two kidnappers were neutralized, while others escaped, abandoning their weapons and ransom money,” Adejobi stated.
Recovered items included N10 million in ransom, four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, and various ammunition. Mrs. Odumosu has since been reunited with her family after undergoing medical evaluation.
Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, and the operatives for their gallantry. He reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to combating violent crimes and ensuring public safety.
“This operation exemplifies the dedication and resilience of our officers. The Nigeria Police Force remains unwavering in its mission to safeguard lives and property,” Egbetokun said.
