President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the Nigerian military and the families of the six soldiers who lost their lives during a terrorist attack on January 4, 2025, at the Nigerian Army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the fallen soldiers for their bravery and ultimate sacrifice. “Their sacrifice in defending our nation will forever be honoured and remembered,” he said, emphasizing Nigeria’s debt to those who gave their lives in service to the country’s security.

The President also lauded the Nigerian Armed Forces for their rapid and effective response, particularly the air component’s retaliatory strikes. “This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security,” Tinubu stated. According to the President, the targeted air raids successfully neutralised several terrorists and destroyed their assets as they attempted to flee.

Acknowledging the ongoing challenges faced by the military, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry, pledging continued support for the armed forces. “Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats,” he added.

In light of the attack, the President has called for a thorough investigation to understand the incident’s circumstances and prevent future occurrences. He also urged the military to intensify operations, particularly in the Northwest, where bandits continue to threaten the safety of innocent civilians.

President Tinubu concluded by calling on Nigerians, including the media, to support the military’s efforts in restoring peace and security across the nation. “We must remain united in our resolve to support our armed forces as they work tirelessly to protect our people and secure our nation,” he said.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of January 4, claimed the lives of six soldiers but was met with a strong counterattack, demonstrating the Nigerian Armed Forces’ determination to maintain national security in the face of evolving threats.
