On Tuesday, the Katsina State Government honored Malama Abdulkadir-Yanmama with a N500,000 reward for returning N748,320 to the state. The money was intended for the Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding Programme in Katsina.
Dr. Mudassir Nasir, Executive Director of the Katsina State Social Investment Programme Agency, presented the reward to Abdulkadir-Yanmama. He explained that the woman had received an alert with a payment labeled as compensation for vendors providing food to primary school students. However, Abdulkadir-Yanmama, not being a registered vendor in the program, decided to report the matter to the authorities.
After verifying her bank statement, which confirmed her claim, Nasir shared that Governor Dikko Radda instructed that the woman be rewarded with N500,000, a commendation letter, and an offer to join the upcoming school feeding program.
Nasir expressed the governor’s appreciation for her honesty, urging others to follow her example. Alhaji Anas Tukur-Abdulƙadir, the state’s Auditor-General, also praised the woman’s actions, stating she deserved even greater recognition.
In response, Abdulkadir-Yanmama explained that returning the money was the right thing to do since it didn’t belong to her. She also thanked the governor and the KASIPA team for their support, recognition, and encouragement.
