Victor Osimhen honored his injured teammate Mauro Icardi by dedicating his two goals in Galatasaray’s 3-2 win over Samsunspor on Sunday. The Nigerian striker gave his team the lead within three minutes of the Turkish Super Lig Week 12 match and restored their advantage in the 55th minute after Jules Ntcham’s equalizer. To celebrate, Osimhen held up Icardi’s jersey in front of the fans at RAMS Park, Istanbul.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in September, has now scored six goals in six league matches and eight across all competitions. His strong connection with former teammates Icardi and Dries Mertens has strengthened Galatasaray’s attacking force.
On Sunday, Galatasaray confirmed that Icardi, 31, will need surgery after tearing his ACL during their Europa League victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentine forward, who has previously missed matches due to injury, was stretchered off during Thursday’s game.
Galatasaray’s statement explained that Icardi has a torn ACL and meniscus damage. “Our player has begun rehabilitation in preparation for surgery,” they noted. Galatasaray currently leads the Turkish league and sits third in their Europa League group.
