Dangote Cement Plc, through its Obajana facility, has rolled out various community support programs as part of the current Sustainability Week in Kogi State.

According to a company statement, the initiative focuses on empowering local communities and promoting sustainability awareness.

Eseosa Ighile, who heads the Sustainability Department at Dangote Cement Plc, underscored the significance of the week, noting, “Our goal during Sustainability Week is to connect with and uplift local communities through outreach and donations.”

Throughout the week, Obajana’s Sustainability Champions reportedly visited the Ministry of Mercy Orphanage in Lokoja, where they provided necessary supplies and food items. They also engaged with the children and residents by playing games and spending quality time together.

Ighile mentioned that this effort not only strengthened the company’s relationship with the orphanage but also boosted employee engagement by involving them in meaningful community work. The orphanage’s management expressed heartfelt thanks, highlighting the positive difference the visit made.

Azad Nawabuddin, Plant Director at Dangote Cement Plc, reflected on the impact of the 2024 Sustainability Week, stating that it aligned with the year’s theme—Sustainable Development Goal 11, which promotes sustainable cities and communities.

Nawabuddin remarked, “This year’s event was filled with activities encouraging engagement from employees and stakeholders, alongside charity and outreach initiatives.”

Additionally, the company used the week to educate young people on climate change and health-related topics, broadening awareness and understanding of critical global issues.
