Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has responded to allegations of owing millions of naira to a fashion designer, calling the situation a “complete misunderstanding.”
According to reports, the designer claimed that Abraham and fellow actress Annie Idibia had been owing her for over a year. However, Abraham took to social media to set the record straight.
“I borrowed some clothes from the designer through Gabriel Anthony for my movie ‘Malakia,'” Abraham explained. “After the shoot, the clothes were returned to Gabriel, who gave them to another person. I had nothing to do with the clothes after that.”
Abraham shared a chat between Gabriel and the designer, which appears to clear her of any wrongdoing. In the message, Gabriel takes responsibility for the clothes and promises to return them to the designer.
“I’m disappointed that the designer chose to call me out publicly instead of resolving the issue privately,” Abraham said.
Fans have rallied around Abraham, expressing support and skepticism towards the designer’s claims.
“Toyin, you don’t owe anyone an explanation, but thank you for clarifying the situation,” said fan @bbb_adeola. “They will try, but they will always fail.”
“I love how you handled this situation, Toyin,” added @officially_richie_kaka_berry_. “Leave the haters alone, you’re bigger and God is with you.”
However, not all fans were convinced. “Why call out Toyin when you had a direct deal with Gabriel?” asked @oge_clare.
- Other fans called for the designer to be exposed. “Awon designer werey…where is her handle make we visit her,” said @beccah_o.
“I’m focused on my work and won’t let baseless allegations bring me down,” Abraham said.
