Sunday Ejoh, a 35-year-old aluminum worker, was sentenced to six months in prison by an Osun State Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing three yam tubers valued at N3,000.
Prosecutor Jacob Akintunde told the court that Ejoh stole the yams from Oluwole Durojaye on September 22, 2024. The stolen items, along with a cutlass and slippers, were recovered from Ejoh.
Ejoh pleaded guilty, citing hunger and family responsibilities as his motivation.
Magistrate M. Olatunji found Ejoh guilty under Section 390(9) of the Osun State Criminal Code and gave him the option to pay a N25,000 fine instead of serving the jail term. The court also ordered Ejoh to return the stolen yams to the owner.
