A devastating fuel tanker explosion occurred on Shehu Shagari Way in Abuja’s Maitama district on Monday, September 23, leaving several people injured and causing widespread chaos.

Eyewitnesses described the terrifying scene as the tanker’s contents ignited, sending massive flames into the air and prompting motorists to abandon their vehicles and flee.

The incident resulted in a massive gridlock, affecting major roads in the area. Victims were rushed to Maitama District Hospital for emergency medical attention.

The explosion has sparked concerns about fuel transportation safety in the nation’s capital. Authorities are yet to comment, but an investigation is expected to determine the cause of the explosion.

This tragedy occurs amid ongoing controversies and protests following President Bola Tinubu’s removal of the fuel subsidy, which has led to severe economic hardship, increased food prices, and widespread discontent.

The fuel subsidy removal has been met with resistance from organized labor and Nigerian youths, with many questioning the government’s decision.

The incident highlights the need for improved safety measures and emergency response strategies to mitigate the impact of such disasters.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway, and authorities are working to provide support to those affected.
