Today, Tuesday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos Zone, is organizing a demonstration in favor of the five lecturers who were fired from Lagos State University, Ojo.
According to an invitation letter that PUNCH Online obtained on Monday, they were wrongfully fired by LASU.
The message on the letter says, “This is to respectfully invite you to the National Day of Solidarity Rally in support of five of our members who were wrongfully fired by the resentful, incompetent, and vindictive administration at Lagos State University, Ojo.”
By 10:00 am, the rally will start.
According to PUNCH Online, the university’s administration fired a number of ASUU members in 2019. These members included the union’s chairman, Isaac Oyewumi; vice chairman, Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu; secretary, Dr. Tony Dansu; assistant secretary, Adeolu Oluwaseyi Oyekan; and treasurer, Oluwakemi Aboderin-Shonibare.
The lecturers were fired, according to the university, for allegedly removing, keeping, distributing, or publishing official confidential documents without authorization.
Previous reports, however, showed that the lecturers in question had denied the accusations.
