Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen voiced his happiness over Nigeria’s 3-0 win against Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
Osimhen, who scored a goal in the match, described the victory as a “statement win” and a form of revenge.
Recall that in June, Nigeria had lost 2-1 against Benin Republic in the World Cup qualifier under former coach Finidi George.
Osimhen revealed to Counter Attack Podcast that it was a big game for him and his team mates. He also praised his teammates, saying, though their performance has been low in the past couple of games, their recent game have been impressive.
He said, “It was really a big game for us; it was a statement win because our performance has been so low in the past couple of games, compared to the talent that we have got in the team.”
Additionally, Benin Republic’s coach, Gernot Rohr, reflected on his team’s defeat, saying, the outcome of the game was a tough one for them.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) commended Osimhen’s impressive performance, stating that he is unstoppable.
