Mr. Auwal Dankode, an employee of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, was rewarded by the company for finding and returning $10,000 while cleaning an aircraft in Kano.
In light of his openness, integrity, and honesty, Dankode—who was born in Kano—was reportedly welcomed to the company’s headquarters at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Saturday.
Last Wednesday at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA, Dankode discovered the money left behind by a passenger on seat No. 25H. He and his colleagues were then assigned to clean the Egypt Air MS 878 passenger aircraft.
He immediately gave the money to the Station Manager of the airline.
While praising Dankode for being a true NAHCO ambassador and applying the company’s training, Mr. Indranil Gupta, Group Managing Director/CEO of NAHCO, announced a substantial monetary reward, an immediate promotion, and an appointment as NAHCO Brand Ambassador, the company stated in a statement.
Leading the management team in expressing gratitude to the employee, Gupta said, “We are sincerely proud of Auwal’s exceptional character.”He is a true NAHCO ambassador and an embodiment of what NAHCO stands for, honesty, integrity, diligence and hard work.”
The GMD added, “We celebrate your being and we want this to be just the beginning. Let the values which your family has instilled, guide you and groom you into ideal leader, which everyone will be proud of.”
The CEO made note of the fact that most NAHCO employees demonstrate these ideals in their day-to-day work for the organization.
“We urge you to continue working the same way with very high integrity, diligence and continue being a good NAHCO ambassador,” Gupta said.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Adeoye Emiloju, Chief Financial Officer of NAHCO, praised Dankode for his high integrity.
“The integrity you’ve displayed is not something that anyone can pretend to have. You’ve shown that it is something that is in you,” Emiloju pointed out.
Mr. Didier Steullet, the COO, also urged Dankode to continue on the right course.
“What you have done is very good,” stated Steullet. You’re the example not only of the week but probably of the year. My only recommendation is that please keep going on the same way. Remain yourself and don’t get carried away with the adulation that you are receiving on social media. You need to remain grounded and make a difference in the world. Stay on the nice side of the ‘force’ and your life will be good.”
Dr. Sola Obabori, Group Executive Director, added, “Because the internet makes things global, you have become a poster boy of NAHCO not only in Nigeria but all over the world. You have done something that makes us proud. In today’s Nigeria, where the value of a dollar is so very high, by returning so many of them, you’ve done something commendable. For you to have seen something as valuable, and give it up, it shows that you’re a man, who has purity of heart. This is very commendable and appreciated. Every well-meaning Nigerian will appreciate what you have done.”
In his capacity as a brand ambassador, Dankode would represent NAHCO at all significant national events, travel, and engage with the company’s executives and stakeholders.
