Akwa Ibom CP, Waheed Ayilara is Dead

Waheed Ayilara, the state Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom has been reported to have passed on. It was reported that he died in the early hours of Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

According to unidentified sources close to the Commissioner’s family, the Nation gathered that he underwent prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday before he dies hours later.

Quoting the family, “We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara is dead”, they confirmed.

Also confirming the CP’s death is a top police officer in the state who preferred to be kept anonymous because he was not authorized to speak on the matter.

Formerly a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ayilara was unveiled as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos in November 2023. He was also in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department that took over AIG Idowu Owohunwa.

In February 2024, Ayilara was deployed to head Akwa Ibom State Command by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
