Chief Magistrate Court in Ekiti State has ordered the remand of a 12-year-old boy in a juvenile home for allegedly stabbing two brothers in the hand and shoulder. The court ruled that the defendant, being a juvenile, should be tried in a juvenile court.
The incident occurred on August 10 at 8 a.m. in the Omi Olori area of Ado Ekiti, where the defendant allegedly assaulted two siblings, Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan, by beating and stabbing them.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, alleged that the defendant also damaged a Vivo handset valued at N19,000 belonging to Basiri Adeitan and conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
The offences committed contravene Sections 186, 421, and 181(d) Laws of Ekiti State, 2021. The prosecutor requested a short adjournment to study the case file and present witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, and his counsel, Mr. Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant bail, promising that his client would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, adjourned the case till August 16 for mention, ordering the defendant’s remand in a juvenile home.
This development ensures that the minor will receive appropriate care and attention while the legal process unfolds, and the court will determine the best course of action for the defendant’s case.
