Victor Osimhen might be on his way to Chelsea, as recent reports indicate that the Premier League club is ramping up negotiations with Napoli. The proposed deal would see Romelu Lukaku moving to Napoli, along with a significant cash payment to finalize Osimhen’s transfer.
Osimhen, the 25-year-old Nigerian striker, is still waiting for his anticipated move from Napoli. Despite signing a new contract in December with a €130 million release clause, he has not yet secured a move. Paris Saint-Germain showed interest but their highest offer was under €90 million.
Napoli, eager to please their new coach Antonio Conte, are interested in acquiring Lukaku. They have been in talks with Chelsea about a potential swap involving Osimhen and a substantial financial sum. Both players are expected to depart their current clubs before the start of the 2024–25 season.
According to today’s Corriere dello Sport, Napoli values Lukaku at around €30 million, even though his release clause is €44 million. Consequently, Chelsea would need to pay an additional €70 million to complete the deal for Osimhen, who is willing to join Chelsea.
A loan arrangement seems improbable given both players’ contracts extend until 2026, so the transfer would likely be permanent. Negotiations are ongoing, with more developments anticipated.
Despite offers from Manchester United, PSG, and Arsenal, Osimhen’s move to Chelsea remains a strong possibility, especially as he has declined several offers from the Saudi Pro League and been excluded from Napoli’s preseason squad.
