Onyeka Onwenu, a renowned singer and actress from Nigeria, is said to have passed away at the age of 72.
She was reported to have passed away on Tuesday night at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos following a fall during Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday celebration.
An eyewitness who was present at the party confirmed the news, according to TheNiche.
“It is very sad, Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped.
“She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it,” the eyewitness said.
As of the time of publication, her family had not yet made an announcement regarding her passing.
Onwenu will be remembered for her music albums such as In The Morning Light and Dancing In The Sun.
Among other films, she had appearances in Lions Heart and Half of a Yellow Sun.
