One person lost their life and two others were injured in an incident on Saturday along the Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway, opposite the Federal Road Safety Corps Unit Command in Anambra State. Eyewitnesses who spoke near the scene on Sunday reported that Chinweuba Chidiebere, driving a private Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ125JV, and another driver of a private Ford Explorer with registration number ZBL626RL were involved in the tragic collision.

According to sources, the driver of the Camry lost control, veered into the lane of the Ford Explorer on the single-carriageway, resulting in the crash. Margaret Onabe, the acting Sector Public Education Officer for FRSC in Anambra State, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro, stating that three adult males were involved, one of whom succumbed to the accident, while the other two were rescued without injuries.

Onabe reported, “Today, July 20, 2024, a fatal road traffic crash occurred opposite the FRSC Command in Nteje along the Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway. The incident involved Chinweuba Chidiebere, driving a private Toyota Camry with Registration Number ABJ125JV, and an unidentified driver of a private Ford Explorer with registration number ZBL626RL.

Three adult males were involved in the incident. Tragically, one of them succumbed to his injuries, while the other two were rescued.

Onabe also mentioned that the FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje promptly transported the victim to Chira Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor. His body was subsequently deposited at the New Jerusalem mortuary in Nteje.

She further noted that the FRSC team managed traffic and ensured the clearance of obstructions caused by the crash.
