According to the Niger Delta Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe has demolished a number of illicit refining facilities in Abia State.

In a statement given to reporters in Yenagoa on Sunday, JTF Commander Rear Admiral John Okeke disclosed the information.

In Obuzor, Okoloma, and the Komkom River in Abia, Okeke reported that the task force also seized fourteen boats carrying crude oil.

He said that the operation was carried out by the air component of the task force, following reliable intelligence from members of the public.

The commander claimed that the mission was designed and carried out to stop illicit activity in the areas around the Komkom, Obuzor, and Okoloma rivers.

“This move is in line with the anti-crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering posture of the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa,” he said.

He said the purpose of the operation was to make it very evident that the Niger Delta Region would not accept economic sabotage or oil theft.

“We are ready, capable, and determined for the task of combating illegal oil activities, and preserving the nation’s critical assets,” he said.

Okeke asked people to always supply the task force with trustworthy information so they can find vandals and oil thieves.
