A heartbreaking road accident occurred on the campus of the University of Ilorin on Thursday, resulting in the loss of one life and nine others injured.
The university’s spokesperson, Kunle Akogun, confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that a commercial bus carrying 10 passengers was involved in the accident.

According to Akogun, the accident occurred as the bus was leaving the campus, and the university’s management immediately launched rescue operations to assist the victims.
He said that all 10 passengers were rushed to the University Health Centre for treatment, where one of the victims was later referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) after being stabilized.

Four of the passengers sustained minor injuries and have been treated and discharged. However, the other five passengers, including the driver, are currently receiving medical attention at the University Health Centre.
Unfortunately, one of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene and was transferred to the mortuary. The university management is working to contact the next of kin of the deceased.

A video of the accident scene has been circulating online, showing a white bus flipping over with passengers trapped inside.

In the video, some people were seen assisting the passengers who were trapped while a female student was seen lying in a pool of blood.
A voice in the background was heard saying, “This one is gone.” Another person claims to know the lifeless female student, saying, “This girl is dead. This girl is in my faculty.”

The reason behind the accident is yet to be determined, and an investigation is likely be done to know the cause of the accident.

As the university management continues to provide support to the affected students, the incident has left both students and staff in a state of mourning, and counseling services are being made available to those affected by the tragedy.
