Following the death of a vigilante member in the Epe area of Lagos State, the Police Command in the state has reported that it has detained two suspected thugs.

This was confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson.

According to Hundeyin, at approximately 4.30 p.m. on Monday, the Epe Police Division received a report about the attack of 45-year-old Oluwafemi, an Ibile Vigilante member, on Friday at approximately 2 p.m. by alleged thugs.

He claimed that when the vigilante member tried to stop the thugs from scavenging disposed-of contaminated frozen turkeys from the dump, they attacked him at a waste disposal site in Afero Village, Epe.

The vigilante member was taken to Epe General Hospital after suffering injuries to various parts of his body, and after receiving treatment, he was discharged from the hospital.

Unfortunately, he was admitted back to the hospital on July 15, 2024, at 2:30 p.m., due to a relapse in his condition. Despite the efforts of the on-call doctors to save his life, he sadly passed away, and his corpse was taken to the mortuary.

“The two suspects have been arrested in addition to the 12 already handed over to the task force on a Saturday over scavenging contaminated turkeys.

He declared, “Investigation is ongoing.”
