In the early hours of today, there has been a fire outbreak in a section of the Dangote Refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State today.
In a viral video making the rounds on the internet, a cloud of thick smoke billowed into the sky from the petroleum facility could be seen. The sound of an explosion could also be heard in the video.
However, the cause of the fire is yet to be uncovered as of the time of reporting.
Punch correspondent contacted the Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer, Dangote Industries Limited, Anthony Chiejina who confirmed the fire incident in a terse message.
According to him, the company was able to contain the minor fire at its effluent treatment facility that broke out in the early hours of Wednesday.
“We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP), today Wednesday 26th of June,” he said.
He noted that the refinery is still in operation and there was no injury or bodily harm recorded. “There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty,” he added.
