On Wednesday morning, as the nation commemorates 2024 Democracy Day, protestors occupied Lagos’ Ikeja Underbridge.
However, there is a strong security presence because police officers and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps representatives have been seen at the location.
Protesters carried banners and placards and, in large numbers, shouted songs of unity. “President Tinubu, let the poor breathe,” “For another general strike with mass protest now,” and “Payment of a living wage to all Nigerian workers now” were among the statements on some of the banners.
According to PUNCH Online, the demonstration is being led by a number of civil society organizations, including the Socialist Workers League, the Education Rights Campaign, the Take It Back Movement, and the Coalition for Revolution.
