At the Abuja Metro Station, Central Business District, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially flagged off the commencement of the commercial operations of the Abuja Rail Mass Transit System.
During his remark to the people and the press, the President noted that today marks the progress of a milestone in the country. He said that the railway was first commissioned in 2018 which he inherited from his predecessors, however, because of the COVID-19 outbreak, it was abandoned, misused, and abused.
He further expressed gratitude for being able to flag off the Abuja Metro Line commonly known as the Metro. He thanked the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike for his serious embracement to commitment and dedication. The president noted that the minister’s service to the nation is a part to the new National Anthem adopted.
According to the president, the metro symbolizes the country’s progress, connectivity, and inclusivity. It is also a significant determination to improve the transportation system in Nigeria.
President Tinubu extended the two months free ride to the end of the year.
After giving his speech, the president proceeded to the official ribbon-cutting of the Abuja Metro Line. Following the flagging off, the old National Anthem was sung at the end of the event.
Accompanied by the Leadership of the National Assembly, House of Representatives, top-level members of the Judiciary, President of the NBA, Oona of Abaji, Chief of Defence Staff, Director General of SSS, Accountant General of the Federation, Representatives of Sultan of Sokoto, Tony Elumelu, Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote and others, president Tinubu proceeded to ride the Abuja Metro train.
The commissioning is indeed a milestone in the president’s administration as marks the first anniversary of his administration.
