Today May 27th marks the celebration of the annual Children’s Day commemoration in Nigeria. In celebration of this day, many private and public organizations give out to the less privileged and some organize children’s parties for the less privileged and privileged to create a sense of belonging.

One of these philanthropic activities is the First Lady and wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo’s visit to a motherless children’s home in Awka called Model Children Home. Her visit was in honor of the Children’s Day celebration.

During her visit to the orphanage, she called for improved welfare, love, and kindness to children across the country to give them a sense of belonging and assurance that the future is bright for them.

She emphasized that during this time, children all around the nation, particularly those housed in orphanages, need and deserve love, care, compassion, and pampering.

The Governor’s wife also went along with cooked meals for the children at the orphanage home. She distributed the food, and gave them some relief supplies, including money.

Shortly after the celebration, she addressed reporters, emphasizing that regardless of family background, children must be raised with the highest care and protection as they are the future of every nation.

She explained that the visit to the orphanage was in keeping with the essence and spirit of Children’s Day, which is a time to spend time with children and help them find greater joy and purpose in life.

“The Children’s Day, for me, is a significant period in the life of children, it is a period to give them a sense of belonging and assure them that the future is bright for them. They are the future of the nation and need to be groomed with utmost care and protection, irrespective of family background”, she said.

The Coordinator of the Model Children Home, Rev. Sister Philomena Akuchukwu expressed her gratitude to Mrs Soludo, describing her as humble, beautiful, lovely, and God-fearing.

The event’s celebration included cooking, serving of meals, cutting of the Children’s Day cake, games, and other presentations by the children.

In the spirit of the Children’s Day celebration, we wish every child a ‘Happy Children’s Day’, you will all shine.
