The Ondo State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of Mr. Alaba Abe, a ward campaign coordinator for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Mr. Abe, also known as Excel, was reportedly assassinated by gunmen in Supare Akoko, Akoko South-West Area of the state on Saturday evening following Aiyedatiwa’s victory in the All Progressives Congress governorship primary.

Mr. Abe served as the Returning Officer for the party’s primary in Ward 10 of the council area. The incident occurred just a week after the APC conducted its governorship primary across the state’s 18 local government areas.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, stated that the command was aware of the situation and had commenced an investigation.

In response to the incident, the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council issued a statement condemning the act and urged the state’s security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.

Mr. David Ajobiewe, the Akoko South-West Local Government Director-General for the LACO-FSIC, expressed shock at the incident, emphasizing Mr. Abe’s non-violent nature and lack of history of disputes. He called on the police to intensify efforts to uncover the motives behind the murder.

Similarly, Mr. Alex Kalejaiye, the Ondo APC Publicity Secretary, described the incident as regrettable and indicated that the party would await a formal briefing from the local government chairman before issuing an official statement, refraining from reacting solely based on social media reports.
