Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen seems close to joining Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli for a reported fee of €120 million. Osimhen is reportedly expected to receive a significant salary increase as part of the deal.
Osimhen, who moved from Lille to Napoli in 2020, recently signed a new contract in December, doubling his monthly earnings to £1.29 million (€1.5 million). His impressive performance, with 31 goals in 39 appearances last season and 14 goals in 26 games this term, has attracted interest from top European clubs.
Negotiations between Napoli and PSG are progressing, indicating Osimhen’s potential move to the French capital, according to Italian outlet Il Mattino. If the deal is finalized, Osimhen could earn €13 million (£11.1 million) annually over a four-year contract.
PSG’s quick response follows their recent 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg. This could be a setback for Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea, who also had their sights set on Osimhen for the summer transfer window.
With Osimhen likely out of reach, Premier League teams may need to consider alternative options to strengthen their striker positions. Players such as RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface, and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres are among those under consideration.
