NAFDAC Cracks Down on Expired Drugs in Aba, Seizes 140 Tonnes

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against counterfeit and expired drugs. In a recent operation, the agency uncovered two warehouses stocked with expired drugs in Aba, Abia State. 

The warehouses, located at No. 269, Sam Mbakwe Road (formerly Faulk’s Road), were found to contain large quantities of expired drugs. According to a statement released by NAFDAC on X (formerly Twitter), some suspects managed to remove several cartons of expired but relabeled drugs before security reinforcements arrived. 

In a related operation, NAFDAC officials seized 140 tonnes of expired drugs from a warehouse at Umumeje, Umuocheala, Osisioma LGA. The agency also collected 178 drug samples, which will undergo laboratory analysis to determine their composition and potential health risks.

The crackdown on expired drugs in Aba is part of NAFDAC’s efforts to protect public health and safety. The agency has been working tirelessly to rid the country of counterfeit and expired drugs, which can have devastating consequences for consumers.
