Atletico Targets Ndidi for Summer Transfer.

Spanish club Atletico Madrid has reportedly added Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to their list of potential midfield reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window. According to CaughtOffside, the Leicester City star is now on the radar of the La Liga side as they look to strengthen their defensive midfield.

Having missed out on securing a player for that role last year, Atletico has intensified efforts to bring in a suitable candidate. With club captain Koke Resurrección nearing the twilight of his career and Thomas Lemar expected to depart, the need for a strong midfield presence has become a priority for the Madrid-based club ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Atletico’s recruitment team has spent months identifying potential signings, with Mallorca’s Samu Costa being one of the names under consideration. Ndidi has now been added to the mix as a potential solution to their midfield concerns, as per CaughtOffside.

The Super Eagles midfielder was previously linked with a move to Barcelona last summer but ultimately extended his contract with Leicester. However, he is widely expected to leave the English club in 2025, and Atletico is among the teams vying for his signature.

Atletico Madrid is not the only club showing interest in Ndidi. Real Betis is also monitoring the situation, especially with their expected sale of Johnny Cardoso to Tottenham Hotspur. The Seville-based club is actively seeking a replacement, and Ndidi has emerged as a viable option.

Meanwhile, AS Monaco is also in the race for the Nigerian international. Reports indicate that the French side had a £20 million bid rejected during the winter transfer window, signaling their serious intent to acquire the player.

Currently, Ndidi is contracted to Leicester City until 2027. The 28-year-old has played 208 Premier League games for the Foxes and was instrumental in their historic FA Cup triumph in 2020/21, followed by their Community Shield victory. His contributions were also key in Leicester’s 2023/24 Championship-winning campaign, where he recorded four goals and five assists in 32 appearances.
