US-Based Nigerian Doctor’s Suicide: Father-in-Law Denies $15,000 Child Support Claim

A fresh controversy has emerged over the tragic death of U.S.-based Nigerian cardiologist Dr. Ikenna Erinne, as his father-in-law, Francis Van-Lare, has debunked claims that he took his own life due to a $15,000 monthly child support obligation.

In a statement, Van-Lare clarified that Erinne’s child support payments were actually set at $1,900 per month, contradicting viral reports that suggested a much higher sum. He also disclosed that the late doctor had struggled to make full payments on multiple occasions.

The circumstances surrounding Erinne’s death have sparked heated discussions online, with some sympathizers portraying him as a peaceful individual who was overwhelmed by financial burdens. However, Van-Lare pushed back against this narrative, sharing legal documents—including restraining orders issued by a Maryland Circuit Court—aimed at painting a different picture of Erinne’s character.

He further alleged that Erinne had held his estranged wife and their children hostage at gunpoint for three hours before law enforcement intervened. According to Van-Lare, Erinne was facing three charges of kidnapping with a deadly weapon, each carrying a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison. He suggested that the prospect of a lengthy jail term may have driven Erinne to take his own life.

While extending condolences to Erinne’s family, Van-Lare emphasized that his daughter should not be blamed for the tragic turn of events. He also expressed relief that the situation did not result in further casualties.

The incident has ignited widespread debate, with many reflecting on the pressures of child support, mental health struggles, and the complexities of personal disputes that escalate into tragedy.
