The stage is set for the much-anticipated Quomodo Swimming Festival, which will take place at Ikoyi Club 1938 on Saturday (today).
This interschool team-based competition is expected to be an exciting showdown, as young swimmers go head-to-head in different categories, striving to enhance their skills and earn medals for themselves and their respective institutions.
Akinbulejo Onabolu, Vice Chairman and Games Captain of the Ikoyi Club Swimming Section, has assured that every necessary arrangement has been put in place to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for all participating schools.
“We value grassroots competitions because they play a crucial role in nurturing young talent. Some of these kids will go on to become prominent names in swimming both nationally and internationally,” Onabolu remarked.
According to Trish Okereke, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, approximately 25 schools are set to participate in the event, with around 300 swimmers competing across 48 individual races and four relay events.
“This is the inaugural edition of the competition, and the enthusiasm from schools has been overwhelming. We are delighted to bring these young athletes together once again, reinforcing our commitment to discovering and developing swimming talent at an early stage,” Okereke stated.
Mrs. Adedoyin Segun-Noibi, General Manager of Quomodo Systems Africa, the tournament’s sponsor, emphasized the significance of sports in youth development.
“We strongly believe that sports play a vital role in shaping young individuals by fostering discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Through our support of this competition, we aim to provide a platform where young athletes can showcase their abilities and reach their highest potential,” she said.
To adhere to international standards, all swimmers will be granted a one-hour warm-up session before the main event begins.
Competitors will battle it out in various categories, including breaststroke, freestyle, individual medley, and backstroke, as they vie for top honors at the Quomodo Grand Slam.
