Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has initiated legal proceedings against a Turkish journalist who accused him of assaulting him at an African restaurant two weeks ago. According to PUNCH Sports Extra, the court hearing is set to commence today.
Currently on loan from Napoli, Osimhen has been flourishing in the Turkish Super Lig, playing a key role in Galatasaray’s quest for domestic and European success. Despite his stellar performances, a recent altercation with a journalist has drawn attention away from his on-field exploits.
The journalist, identified as Tolga Bozduman, alleged that Osimhen assaulted him while he attempted to take photos of the player following Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against Dynamo Kyiv two weeks ago.
The Nigerian striker, however, has strongly refuted these claims. Speaking in a video shared by Pesindeyiz Galatasaray, he stated, “I didn’t hit the journalists; they are lying. Why are you flashing your face, you have to ask permission for an interview. I told them they had to delete my photos. If I wanted to hit them, I would have.”
In a recent development, popular radio personality Buchi Laba disclosed that Osimhen is suing Bozduman for defamation. The case, according to Laba, begins today. Relaying Osimhen’s statement, the Wazobia FM host said, “If I hit him, he’s going to get justice and if he lied, he’s going to get the wrath of the law.”
Since his move to Galatasaray last summer, Osimhen has been in sensational form, contributing 16 goals and five assists in 21 appearances for the Turkish side.
