Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has launched the distribution of free fertilizers and agricultural inputs to farmers across the state’s 23 local government areas. The initiative aims to support dry-season farming, enhance food security, and create job opportunities for youths.

Speaking at the event in Wamakko Local Government Area, Governor Aliyu emphasized that the program targets women and youth farmers, saying, “As you are aware, the Sokoto State Government had earlier distributed various agricultural inputs during last rainy season… Alhamdulillah our efforts had yielded positive result.”

The governor highlighted the state government’s commitment to improving agricultural output, stating, “We are also here today to distribute another set of input for dry season farming which would in no small measure continue to enhance growth of food productivity in our State.” Each local government area will receive 3 trucks of assorted fertilizer for dry-season farming.

To boost irrigation activities, Governor Aliyu announced that the Kware Irrigation Scheme, covering 450 hectares, has been completed and will soon be allocated to farmers. Additionally, work on the Wurno Irrigation Scheme has commenced, and a contract for the rehabilitation of the Lugu Dam has been awarded.

The governor called on citizens to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the administration, saying, “Let me at this juncture assure you that the state government will continue to work diligently with the Federal Government and Development Partners… This is with the aim of not only diversifying our sources of revenue but also ensuring food security in our great country.”

Governor Aliyu expressed appreciation for the support of development partners, including the World Bank, the Federal CARES Support unit, and the National Fadama coordination office. He warned those responsible for distributing the fertilizers not to compromise the process, stating, “I advise you in your interest to have the fear of Allah and allow the masses to enjoy the full benefit of this gesture by our government.”
