The British national accused of sponsoring the #EndBadGovernance protest, Andrew Wynne, has maintained his innocence, stating that the Nigerian government lacks evidence against him.

In a WhatsApp conversation with Punch, Wynne alleged that the police illegally invaded his Abuja bookshop, stealing his granddaughter’s bicycle and his books, but found no evidence of wrongdoing.

Wynne said, “Yes, but as I am completely innocent, they have no evidence against me. The government just wants to blame me, as a foreigner, for the massive protests. They need to address the massive poverty that has got much worse in the last 15 months.
“I am concerned for the detainees who have been arrested and tortured. The NLC needs to take action to get them freed.
“I wrote to them on WhatsApp. They started talking but asked me no questions and then stopped. I have not committed any crime, and the police know that.
“They took all my books from Iva Valley Bookshop, they ransacked my home and stole my granddaughter’s bicycle, and yet they still found no evidence.”

Wynne stated that the government’s desires to blame a foreigner for the widespread protests. He emphasized the need for the government to address the country’s worsening poverty, which has escalated over the past 15 months.

Despite his claims of innocence, a Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an arrest warrant for Wynne, charging him with treason and terrorism.
