#EndBadGovernance Organisers Plan ‘Fearless in October’ Protests

The organizers of the recently concluded #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest are gearing up for another explosive nationwide demonstration in October.

The Director of Mobilization of the Take It Back Movement, Damilare Adenola, confirmed the planned protests on Monday. He stated that the demonstrators’ demands would not change unless additional issues arose, in which case they would have to add more.

“Yes. It is called the ‘Fearless in October Protest’. Our charter of demands remains the same. If at all, we will add more as the country decays more,” he said.

Recall that youths across the country staged the #EndBadGovernance protests nationwide, including the Federal Capital Territory, despite efforts by government officials to urge youths to shun the protests.

Days before the protests, the demonstrators presented a list of demands to the government. Among these were the following: pay Nigerian workers a minimum of N250,000; restore fuel prices and electricity tariffs to pre-January 2023; release and compensate all EndSARS and political detainees; abolish the Senate arm of the National Assembly; and make lawmaking a part-time job for the House of Representatives.

When asked if the demonstrators would follow state government court orders to hold protests at specific locations, Adenola said, “We will not accept the compliance.”

Additionally, Punch correspondent was informed by activist and human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju that current efforts are focused on securing the release of demonstrators who were detained during earlier protests.

“All efforts are being directed towards securing the release of those that have been arrested,”  he told our correspondent via phone call.
