The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has expressed his condolences to the African football community following the passing of former Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Alhaji Issa Hayatou.

Gusau described Hayatou as a “great and much-loved leader of African football” who worked tirelessly to leave a lasting legacy in the sport.

He also praised Hayatou’s strong character and integrity, saying “We love him, but God loves him more.”

Hayatou served as CAF President from 1988 to 2017, passed away on Thursday in Paris, France, after a prolonged illness. He was also a member of the International Olympic Committee and served as Acting President of FIFA for a brief period in 2015-2016.

Gusau’s tribute was shared by other football stakeholders, including former Nigerian leaders and football personalities, who remembered Hayatou as a dedicated servant of African football.

May his legacy continue to inspire future generations of football leaders and players.
