Davidson Alaribe, the 60th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), addressed the newest batch of Associate Accounting Technicians at their induction ceremony on Wednesday at the ICAN Centre in Lagos. In his speech, Alaribe emphasized the importance of integrity and precision in the accounting profession.

He urged the 828 inductees to make these principles their guiding lights and to consistently adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics throughout their careers.

Alaribe further reinforced the significance of maintaining the core principles of the accounting profession: integrity, objectivity, confidentiality, professional behavior, and due care.

He highlighted that ICAN’s disciplinary mechanisms are stringent and that any deviation from these principles will be met with appropriate consequences. He encouraged the new associates to view the institute’s code of ethics, constitution, and by-laws as their professional guidebook.

During the event, Alaribe led the inductees in taking their oath of allegiance. The ICAN institute boasts over 32,000 associate accounting technicians under the Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa. In addition, Haruna Yahaya, ICAN’s Vice President and Chairman of the AAT Executive Committee, encouraged the new associates to seize opportunities for professional growth and to make positive contributions across various sectors.

He noted that the skills and knowledge they have acquired are valuable tools that will help them make a significant impact both in their workplaces and in the broader economic landscape.

Miss Ayomide Faleye was honored with the ICAN Silver Scholarship for her exemplary performance in the previous examination cycle, receiving the prestigious star prize for her achievements.
