The appointment of three second-class Emirs of Rano, Gaya, and Karaye with immediate effect has been approved by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, a copy of which was made available to PUNCH Online on Wednesday, the new emirates are to serve as second with Kano as first-class emirate.

Alhaji Muhammad Karaye, who was just appointed as the Emir of Karaye by Yusuf, had previously served as the District Head of Rogo.

Formerly the District Head of Bunkure, Alhaji Muhammad Umar was named the Emir of Rano.

Alhaji Aliyu Abdulkadir Gaya, who was the emir of the recently overthrown Gaya emirate, was also named by the governor as the emir of Gaya.

The statement added, “While congratulating the newly appointed Emirs, Governor Abba Yusuf enjoined them to be custodians of the culture, peace, and unity of the people in their respective emirates.”

Two of the state’s three second-class emirates, Rano and Kibiya, which encompass only the Rano and Bunkure Local Government areas, were signed into law by Yusuf on Tuesday.

Gaya covers only Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu Local Government Areas, while Karaye covers only Karaye and Rogo Local Government Areas.
