Kaduna DisCo Prohibits Transferring Meters

Ahmed Sanusi, Chief Commercial Officer of Kaduna Electric, has declared the relocation of prepaid meters without authorization illegal. He emphasized that the company will take stringent measures, including arrest and prosecution, against those involved in energy theft.

During a recent inspection of prepaid meter users in Barnawa, Kaduna, accompanied by management and security personnel, Sanusi condemned the unauthorized movement of meters, highlighting that such actions contravene Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) guidelines.

Sanusi expressed concern over the increasing incidents of energy theft and meter bypassing. He made it clear that customers are not permitted to move meters from their original registered locations.

He warned that the company would enforce legal actions against violators. He noted that energy theft is rampant within the company’s service area, undermining efforts to ensure reliable power supply and revenue collection.

Sanusi reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering electricity safely and denounced any illegal activities that endanger lives or drain resources. He stated, “Our goal is to provide safe electricity services in accordance with standard practices, and we will act decisively against any illegalities within our jurisdiction. Customers must adhere to metering guidelines and regulations, and violators will face appropriate penalties.”
