An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Anas Adamu Galadima, popularly known as Zam Zam, has called on voters in Northern Nigeria to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office in the 2027 general election.
Galadima made the appeal while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the APC presidential campaign launch in Kaduna on Saturday, arguing that political reciprocity, continuity in economic policies and sustained efforts to improve national security should guide the North’s decision.
He recalled Tinubu’s contribution to the APC’s successful presidential campaign in 2015, when the party’s candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, won after previously contesting the presidency unsuccessfully in 2003, 2007 and 2011.
According to Galadima, Tinubu’s political networks, grassroots mobilisation and resources helped strengthen the coalition that secured Buhari’s victory.
He argued that the support Tinubu provided at the time should be considered in the current political debate over the presidency.
Galadima maintained that fairness and mutual political support should inform discussions about power rotation, adding that the South-West should be allowed to complete two terms in the presidency, similar to Buhari’s eight years in office.
He said political alliances should be built on mutual understanding rather than abandoned when circumstances change.
On the economy, the APC chieftain urged Nigerians to allow the current administration more time to implement its policies, particularly reforms affecting the foreign exchange market and other aspects of the economy.
Although he acknowledged that the reforms had created short-term difficulties for households and businesses, he argued that consistent implementation and improved execution could help deliver longer-term benefits.
Galadima also called on the government to ensure that the gains from its economic policies reach ordinary Nigerians, stressing that continuity should be accompanied by practical measures to ease the cost-of-living pressures facing citizens.
Addressing insecurity, he said recent changes to the country’s security leadership and operational structures should be given adequate support and resources to produce results.
He identified terrorism, banditry and kidnapping as major concerns, particularly in parts of Northern Nigeria, and urged the APC to strengthen its engagement with communities affected by violence.
According to him, a second Tinubu administration would provide an opportunity to sustain security efforts and pursue longer-term strategies to protect lives and property.
Galadima also commented on political developments in Kwara State, urging residents to support Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, popularly known as SYD. He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for promoting power rotation in the state.
The APC chieftain’s remarks come as political actors and support groups begin mobilising ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates over regional representation, economic performance and security expected to feature prominently in discussions about the next presidential contest.
His appeal reflects his personal political position in support of Tinubu’s re-election, while voters will ultimately determine their choice at the polls.
