The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has announced that its presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, is prepared to visit all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory during his campaign for the 2027 general elections.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the council disclosed this while condemning reports that President Bola Tinubu might not campaign in every state ahead of the election.
The opposition campaign organisation described the reported development as an expression of arrogance and disrespect towards Nigerians.
The ADC-PCC Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this when he received a group of young Nigerians operating under the banner of Young Voters for Atiku (YVA).
According to Ologbondiyan, any incumbent president seeking another term should be prepared to meet citizens, explain his administration’s achievements and outline his plans for the country if re-elected.
He insisted that Atiku was willing to travel nationwide, interact with voters and present his proposals for tackling Nigeria’s economic difficulties and security concerns.
“What President Tinubu has done is a clear act of contempt against the Nigerian people. The APC is known for its contempt for Nigerians. How can a man who wants to be re-elected as president, after failing woefully, say he does not want to visit the people he seeks to govern? It is an aberration of norm,” Ologbondiyan stated.
The campaign council’s spokesperson also rejected claims that official engagements could prevent Tinubu from participating in campaign activities across the country.
He pointed to former Nigerian presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, alongside former United States presidential contenders Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, as examples of political leaders who campaigned while pursuing electoral victories.
“Saying that he (Tinubu) will be attending to official assignments is untrue, fake, deceitful and insincere. Didn’t former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari attend to official duties while campaigning for their return tickets? Didn’t Donald Trump campaign? Didn’t Kamala Harris campaign? Why is Tinubu’s case different?” he asked.
Ologbondiyan maintained that the reported decision could create an opening for the ADC to strengthen its presence nationwide. He described Atiku as physically fit, mentally prepared and capable of engaging voters throughout the campaign period.
He further questioned Tinubu’s intention to seek re-election, arguing that any leader requesting another mandate should be willing to meet the electorate and defend his administration’s performance.
“President Tinubu has taken Nigerian for a joke and should not seek re-election. A president who is afraid to face his own people has no business asking for their votes,” he declared.
The ADC-PCC director attributed the alleged reluctance to campaign nationwide to public frustration over rising living costs, unemployment, poverty, insecurity and economic hardship. These assertions represent the opposition council’s position rather than an independently established explanation for Tinubu’s reported plans.
He urged young people and other Nigerians to vote against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), promising that an Atiku administration would prioritise economic recovery, wealth creation and improved national security.
Ologbondiyan also said Atiku would pursue the restoration of fuel subsidies to lower petroleum costs, reduce hunger and strengthen the country’s economy.
Meanwhile, the APC has proposed a nationwide campaign itinerary covering the federation’s six geopolitical zones. The proposed programme is expected to commence in Kaduna on October 24, 2026, and conclude with a major rally in Lagos on January 9, 2027.
The schedule identifies 12 strategic locations where Tinubu is expected to participate in campaign activities, including Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Bauchi, Gombe, Benue, Kogi, Enugu, Anambra, Delta, Rivers and Lagos.
