Nigerians have been encouraged to take steps towards participating in the 2027 general elections by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, made the appeal through a video posted on his social media pages on Tuesday, using his own voter card as an example.
The governor said the Independent National Electoral Commission had announced October 9, 2026, for the commencement of PVC collection.
“INEC has confirmed that Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) collection commences on 9 October 2026. Please get your PVC so that you can participate in the 2027 election,” he said.
Makinde also addressed Nigerians in the video, describing the voter card as an important means through which citizens can exercise their democratic rights.
“Fellow Nigerians, INEC has set December 12th as the date for people to start collecting their Permanent Voter Card.
“This is your power. Irrespective of who you want to vote for, let’s go out, collect your PVC, and you will use it wisely,” he said.
He further urged eligible voters not to stay away from the electoral process because of their preferred political party or candidate, but to secure their PVC and make their choices at the polls.
Makinde is among the politicians preparing to challenge for the presidency in 2027. He is running under the Allied Peoples Movement, which gave him its presidential nomination in May 2026.
His campaign team took another step towards the election on Tuesday with the inauguration of its National Campaign Management Committee in Abuja. The organisation is projecting a vote haul of between 41 million and 68 million in the 2027 contest.
The governor has occupied the Oyo State Government House since 2019 and won another four-year mandate in 2023. He is now seeking to replace President Bola Tinubu after the next presidential election.
