Wike Meets Fubara as Rivers Politics Takes New Turn

A fresh political engagement appears to be taking shape in Rivers State as FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, paid a private visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Wike arrived at Fubara’s residence alongside prominent figures linked to the Rainbow Coalition, including Senator Magnus Abe and the All Progressives Congress governorship hopeful, Kingsley Chinda.

Details of what was discussed behind closed doors were not made public. However, the gathering is significant as it represents the first reported occasion Wike has gone to Fubara’s home since their prolonged political confrontation was brought to an end.

The latest development comes against the backdrop of ongoing attempts to consolidate the truce between the two camps.

A reconciliation group chaired by Abe had previously held two sessions with Fubara at the Rivers Government House. Those engagements focused largely on finding a place for individuals aligned with the governor within the emerging political framework.

Fubara had earlier signalled his willingness to restore political ties when he told supporters at a public event in Port Harcourt that he had returned to his political family.

A source familiar with the latest development described Wike’s visit as another step towards repairing political relationships and preparing the coalition for the 2027 contest.

The source said, “It is also part of measures to cement the renewed peace in the state. You know the Senator Magnus Abe-led reconciliation committee has met with the governor twice.

“Now, maybe it’s time for the FCT minister to visit the governor to show that peace has truly returned.”

Although the Rainbow Coalition has not formally launched its 2027 campaign, Tuesday’s gathering reportedly brought together influential figures from Fubara’s political camp and members of the coalition.

The participants were said to have discussed possible areas of cooperation and ways to coordinate their political activities, with the broader objective of securing electoral success in Rivers State at the 2027 general elections.
