Dr Sokonte Davies, a Rivers State governorship aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has moved into the political camp of the Rainbow Coalition, an alliance backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The development was made public on Wednesday by Lere Olayinka, Wike’s media aide, who posted pictures of the minister alongside Davies on social media.
Davies, who previously represented his constituency in the House of Representatives, had been a strong supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s presidential candidate, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi.
However, the former lawmaker has now changed political direction by aligning with the coalition associated with Wike.
The development followed Davies’ visit to the former Rivers State governor at his Port Harcourt home on Wednesday morning.
Wike has remained in Rivers State for approximately one week, engaging prominent political figures and stakeholders across the state.
The meetings are reportedly aimed at strengthening support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid to secure another term in office during the 2027 presidential election.
Davies’ latest political move comes amid growing shifts in political allegiance across Rivers State, with politicians and party members increasingly forming new alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The continued movement of political actors between parties and alliances is gradually altering the state’s political landscape as preparations for the next electoral cycle gather momentum.
