JUST IN: INEC Revises NDC Logo Ahead of 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated the symbol of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on its official online platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The electoral body now displays the party’s revised emblem, featuring a blue background and the “Two Fingers Up” design. The latest update comes after a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered the commission to recognise, upload and make use of the amended logo adopted by the political organisation.

The ruling, delivered by Justice J. O. Abdulmalik, has added a new dimension to the disagreement between the NDC and INEC concerning the appropriate symbol to be used by the party and its candidates during elections.

The development follows an earlier directive issued by the NDC to its candidates, members and supporters to begin using the redesigned emblem after the court directed INEC to update its portal with the new symbol.

The party’s leader, Seriake Dickson, had disclosed the legal development in a statement shared on X. He explained that the NDC resorted to litigation after attempts to settle the disagreement with INEC through administrative channels failed to produce a resolution.

According to Dickson, the revised emblem was endorsed during the party’s inaugural National Executive Council meeting before it was formally submitted to the electoral commission for consideration.

He claimed that INEC initially uploaded the new logo on its platform but later removed it without providing an explanation and restored the previous emblem associated with the party’s original registration.

Dickson maintained that the party objected to the decision, arguing that the updated symbol had already been properly approved through the party’s internal process and forwarded to the commission.

He said the NDC allowed INEC adequate time to address the matter and correct what the party considered an improper action. However, after the commission failed to take the expected steps, the party decided to seek judicial intervention.

The NDC leader described the eventual court decision as an affirmation of the party’s position on the matter. He also expressed appreciation to the judiciary for stepping in and providing a legal resolution to the disagreement.

Following the judgment, the party directed its candidates and members to discontinue the use of the former logo in their official activities and campaign-related engagements.

Dickson further instructed NDC candidates, supporters and other party stakeholders to immediately adopt the newly approved emblem for all political and promotional purposes.

The directive covers campaign materials such as posters, banners, flyers and other publicity items that may be used during preparations for the 2027 elections.

With INEC now reflecting the revised symbol on its official portal, the development marks a significant step in the NDC’s efforts to secure recognition of its preferred logo ahead of the forthcoming electoral cycle.

The latest adjustment is expected to settle, at least administratively, the disagreement over which symbol should represent the NDC and its candidates as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
